What is the weather like in Budapest 2019

Hungary is in the eastern region of Central Europe. Consequently, the continental and the Oceanic climates have a great influence on its weather, which sometimes can be really changeable. There are four seasons, but the borders of them are often blurred.

If we see the average temperatures, it is the coldest month in the year. The average temperature of the month is often below minus 10 °C. On the coldest days, the maximum temperature is also below zero (but, fortunately, they are not too common). If you have missed the white Christmas in December, do not worry, because you have a good chance to receive some snow in the first month of the year. It is an ideal month for winter sports. Although Budapest is not famous for its mountains, there is a skiing facility at Normafa.

It is actually the end of the winter, but it can be also really cold, and snowing is not rare, too. In some year, the winter seems really mild, there are not too cold, there is no snow… Well, in these years, February usually shows what is typical winter weather like. However, at the end of the month, we can feel the mild, slow warming of the temperature.

Although it is spring, it can be sometimes really cool, especially in the first period of the month. It can even be snow, but only rarely and it melts fast. The average temperature rarely exceeds 14 °C. Days become noticeably longer, more than half of the day consists of light hours. Rainfalls are more often in the second part of the month.

This is a really capricious month! The temperature can suddenly change during the day, it can be hot in an hour, and you will be cold in the next. So it is worth clothing in layers. Rain is also common in this period of the year, especially sudden and short downpours, which are similar to the summer showers. Most of the flowers start to bloom in April, so nature and the parks offer a beautiful view.

Days become warmer and warmer, and – especially at the end of the month – the weather is similar to the early summer. Days are also longer; the number of daylighted hours are circa 15.5 hours. These days are excellent for hiking or sightseeing! Although the warm, rainfalls are common, namely more common than in April. There are three days in May which can bring extremely cold. Round these days, the temperature can be below zero. However, they do not last long, and nice late spring weather comes back.

The first month of the summer is pleasantly warm, but usually not extremely hot. The average temperature is usually under 30 °C. However, in some days, the moisture of the air is high, and it is not too pleasant for the human body. Sudden pours are often in June. There is an old folk observation which says if it is raining on the 8th of June, there will be rainfalls for 40 days. You probably won’t notice it but the days become shorter from the 21st of June because this datum is the day of the summer solstice.

July is the hottest month in the year, and on the hottest days, the temperature can be above 35 °C. So if you are planning swimming, resting on a beach, or a cruise, it can be an ideal choice, but if you are interested in the sightseeing or hiking, choose the period of the early morning or late night instead. July is usually much drier than the first month of the summer.

April is known as the most capricious month, but August can also easily surprise us. It can be hot and dry, but cooler and rainy days are also not rare at this time of the year. In the very early hours, you can see some dew on the leaves of plants or even on the built objects. You can make nice photos of it!

The weather can be really changeable in the first month of autumn. In the first part of it, there can be as hot as in the summer, but at the end of the month, the temperature can be under 0 °C. Dry periods are more often than rains. So if you plan a late holiday, September in Budapest is an excellent choice.

This is the typical autumn month in Hungary. You cannot experience the summer feeling anymore, but the feeling of the winter also doesn’t occur yet. The average weather is chill, it is usually between 13 and 7 °C. The length of the days is noticeably shorter. The sky is often clouded, but heavy downpours are not common.

This is the first month of the winter, and it is the ‘warmest’ of the three winter months. The sky is often clouded, and fog is common in the mornings. There can be snow, but it often melts fast, so, unfortunately, we cannot enjoy the ‘traditional’ white Christmas too often.
